Neulasta (Pegfilgrastim)

Neulasta, which is marketed by Amgen, is used to reduce the chance of infection in chemotherapy patients who have certain types of cancer.  Neulasta is a colony stimulating factor which helps the body produce more white blood cells.

Use of Neulasta can result in the following side effects: bone, joint or muscle pain; headache; constipation; vomiting; fever; shortness of breath; difficulty breathing; dizziness; hives; rash; and swelling around the mouth or eyes.  Neulasta has also been linked to more serious side effects, such as splenic rupture, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sickle cell crisis and Sweet’s syndrome.
