Lovenox (Enoxaparin sodium)

Lovenox is an anticoagulant that is used to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis, a type of blood clot, which can result in pulmonary embolism.  It is also used to prevent blood vessel complications in people who have angina or who have suffered from a heart attack.  Lovenox is marketed by Sanofi-Aventis.

Use of Lovenox may result in the following side effects:  bleeding, thrombocytopenia (a decrease in the platelets in the blood), headache, hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels), abdominal or chest pain and transminitis.  Lovenox can also result in a very serious blood clot around the brain or spinal cord in people who undergo a spinal tap or receive spinal anesthesia.
