Prevacid (Lansoprazole)
Prevacid is a proton-pump inhibitor that is used to treat ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, Helicobactor pylori infections in the stomach and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Prevacid was first approved by the FDA in 1995. Prevacid is now available as a more affordable generic drug because its patent expired on November 10, 2009.
Prevacid’s side effects include dizziness, confusion, headache, uneven heart rate, muscle cramps, seizure, constipation, nausea, diarrhea and coughing.
Protein-pump inhibitors such as Prevacid may increase the risk of bone fractures in the wrist, hip or spine in people who are over 50 years old or in people who have taken Prevacid long term or at high doses.
