Flomax (Tamsulosin)
Flomax is an alpha-adrenergic blocker that is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, the enlargement of the prostate, as well as for the passage of kidney stones. The drug works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder, which improves urination in men.
Side effects associated with Flomax include chest pain, flu symptoms, painful erections, dizziness, headache, nausea, diarrhea, back pain, blurred vision, insomnia and back pain. People who are taking Flomax should avoid standing for long periods of time and should also avoid becoming overheated.
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicated that Flomax is associated with complications following cardiac surgery, such as floppy iris syndrome. As a result, people who are taking Flomax should inform their doctors that they are taking the drug.
